Stroke Treatment & Care
Intra-arterial Thrombolysis (IA t-PA)
-
Intra-arterial (IA) thrombolysis is an advanced treatment of an ischemic stroke (a blockage of a blood vessel in the brain) that is only available at specialized facilities. In this procedure a catheter is navigated to the blocked blood vessel and tPA (tissue plasminogen activator) or clot-busting drug is delivered directly at the site of the clot to dissolve it and re-open the vessel.
Mechanical Thrombectomy & Stenting
-
Mechanical thrombectomy is an advanced treatment of an ischemic stroke (a blockage of a blood vessel in the brain) that is only available at specialized facilities. It is an alternative strategy for opening the vessels and is useful for patients who are neither eligible for intravenous or intra-arterial thrombolysis. In this procedure a catheter is navigated to the blocked blood vessel and special devices are used to extract the clot from the vessel.
