Dr. Kathan Amin is an experienced body imager and served as an assistant professor of radiology in body imaging at the University of Washington before joining Consulting Radiologists, Ltd.
Originally from Denver, CO, he received his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora. After earning an internal medicine internship at the University of Colorado Hospital, Dr. Amin moved to Chicago for residency at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. He then completed his MRI fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, while moonlighting in General Radiology at the UnityPoint Health, Meriter Hospital.
Dr. Amin’s practice philosophy is to strive daily to use all of his knowledge, experience, intuition, and critical thinking skills to provide the best care possible for the patient and their families.
Professionally, he is interested in cardiac imaging, trauma imaging, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and liver imaging, specifically iron overload and HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma). He enjoys using his knowledge in medicine, physics, engineering, and technology to help diagnose people in their time of illness.
When asked what challenges of being a radiologist he enjoys the most, he replied, “Radiology is a humbling profession, as we are constantly challenged with the various ways diseases can present in imaging. Figuring out how a disease is presenting this time is something I enjoy every day because it engages higher level thinking and truly brings out the art in medicine.”
Outside work, Dr. Amin enjoys trying new foods, hiking, tinkering with electronics, traveling, astronomy, and spending time with his wife and family. Unsurprisingly, Dr. Amin told us he would be an astronaut if he weren’t a health care provider.
