SELECTIVE INTERNAL RADIATION THERAPY

Radioembolization, or selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT), is a minimally invasive treatment for tumors in which radioactive microspheres are infused into arteries feeding primary and metastatic liver tumors. The microspheres are tiny plastic or glass spheres filled with radioactive isotope Yttrium-90. The microspheres become lodged in the tumor blood vessels, causing tumor cells to die.
