GASTROSTOMY (FEEDING) TUBE

Gastrostomy tubes, also known as feeding tubes, are placed into the stomach to allow patients to take in sufficient amounts of nutrition when they are unable to do so orally for a prolonged period. A gastrojejunal (GJ tube) feeding tube allows liquids to be fed directly into the small intestine if feeding into the stomach is not safe, as with patients with gastroesophageal reflux.
